Resting the gaze.
Taking the stately portraits of the Renaissance, including her encounter with the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, Nele Boudry reimagines these proud figures with quiet empathy. She sought to let them rest, to allow them to sleep. Based on these historic paintings, she creates adaptations that soften their rigidity and invite stillness. Layer by layer, form, gesture, and atmosphere gradually reveal themselves, an act of attentive reflection that bridges past and present.
